About Lon Chaney Sr.

Lon Chaney Senior, (4/1/1883 - 8/26/1930) 'The Man of 1,000 Faces' left an indelliblemark on silent films, and died at their twilight. He took most of his makeup secrets to his grave. A very private person, his grave is unmarked, and biographers commented often that "between pictures, there is no Lon Chaney." The makeup kit itself is reportedly in the collection of the Los Angeles County Museum.

This image is from 'London After Midnight,' a lost film that is only known by a handful of stills. A stylized version of his image was used as the logo of 'Creature Features,' a WGN Chicago Saturday night horror show of the 1970's.
